Hi. Wife and I will be visiting Cayman Islands for first time from the US (upstate NY) in beginning of December. Does anyone have any travel hints or experiences to share? I just don't know what to expect (we're going with another couple that has been there before.)

Thanks.

Have a fantastic time!!!

I loved the Cayman Islands when I went, beautiful clear skies and gorgeous beaches. There's a lovely supermarket where we picked up fresh food and had a picnic on the beach, then went swimming.

One piece of advice, wear footwear in the water, there are nasty things in the water. I stepped on one and it sent barbs through my feet which were very painful.

We got married on Grand Cayman on 7 mile beach behind the Governors house.
This is probably one of my favorite islands.
They have amazing diving if you are certified. If not make sure to go snorkeling.

Have a wonderful time

Thanks so much...plan to snorkel a bit, as I'm not certified for diving. The people we're going with said we just HAVE to Stingray City. Thx.

heh
We spent part of our honeymoon there.
It really is beautiful, and the locals are nice people.
Be careful of getting too much sun, though.

Yes, you must go to stingray city! It is an unbelievable experience swimming and snorkeling with the stingrays. I wouldn't worry about going to Hell though...we spent 5 minutes there...not much to see. We mailed our postcards from the post office in Hell, so that our postcards would read "Hell, Grand Cayman".
Have a great time!

Thanks to everybody for your input...we just got back on Saturday after a week in Cayman...to find snow in Upstate NY! Quite an extreme change from one to the other. I had no snowbrush in the car, so my snorkel fins came in quite handy to remove the snow from my windshield at the airport!

Snorkeling at Cemetary Beach was amazing! Weather was quite breezy, as a tropical depression (Opal) was blowing through...but it was a warm, tropical breeze. Took a scuba lesson at the resort...loved it...so I went on an unexpected 45-minute, 35-foot dive, which was also great. Next time, I think I'll go for the 2.5 day certification. Loved driving on the left-side! Did stop at Hell (what a tourist trap!). Swam with stingrays at stingray city. Rum Point. Barefoot Man. Pedro St. James. Botanical Gardens. And ate and drank more than I should have!

We loved it...and had a ball!
