Somehow, I can't see where outdated locomotives is the most pressing problem faced by US passenger rail. For all the rail service in this country, they could just as well pull them with steam locomotives.

I keep waiting for hydrogen powered trains. USA was the first to develop a hydrogen powered locomotive (by the military) but it looks like we will will once again lag behind other countries in full scale development and putting them in service.
