No reason not to go, unless a criminal conviction will keep you from entering.

Keep in mind that travel to some countries will bar entry into others, AND may get you a lot of extra scrutiny by US CBP when you return.

I know this thread is old but I just got back from the UAE and Oman. Both were fabulous countries, very safe and clean, and very welcoming to two American females in a very appropriate way. There was a lot to see, great food to eat, and fun things to do (dive in the aquarium in Dubai Mall, dune bash in the Arabian desert, smoke shisha in an exotic country....). And neither of us got any extra scrutiny by any official in either country, or when we were back in the US. I've been patted down and searched much more in Amsterdam and London than on this trip. Definitely put those countries on your travel destination list!

The country is very safe, with citizens that have a US passport that is valid for more than six months not needing to obtain a visa prior to entry to the UAE (as long as the duration of the visit is less than one month). Check out hotels in Dubai Parks and Resorts or Downtown Dubai for an amazing stay in the city. You can also stay with your cousins if it’s an option on the table. The city has fun things to do, great food options, and comes with an infrastructure that’ll take your Instagram profile a notch higher.
