We have to make trip from DFW TX area to south of Sarasota Fl this summer
will be driving with pets (dog and cat)
We know we can't make trip in 1 day although we have younger friends with a child and dog who will make same drive straight through when they come visit parents

My husband wants to go I-20 to Shreveport then south on I-49 to Baton Rouge and catch I-10 and stay on it until I-75
we have driven I-20 north route to Disney World through Jackson and Hattiesburg in past and he thinks it will be faster to take the south route...
I-20 the last time we drove to Monroe LA was really rough with nothing but trucks (and I know trucks are on any interstate)...but it was very rough surface

has anyone recently driven south from Shreveport to Baton Rouge and along I-10
or gone south from Jackson to Hammon and caught I 10
either route is likely to be 19 hours w/o any stop time figured in so we know we will be spending at least one night enroute...maybe two depending on our pets' and our own capacity...

since we will have a dog that will need to stop periodically (she is good traveler so not that often) we will also prefer nice rest stops that are park area more than truck stop/convenience store stops

any suggestions for better route and motels along it that are nice for pets appreciated too

thanks...

I-20 east (through Montgomery Al and Columbus GA) then south at I-75 to Sarasota.
Avoid I-10 unless you're stopping in 'Narlins.

that would add both time/distance to to the trip...
no need to go so far to the north/east just to stay on I20 to get to I75

Nope. No significant difference in time or miles. Google map it.

I-20 east (then through Montgomery Al and Columbus GA) to I-75 and south to Sarasota.
1,189 mi, 18 hours 41 mins
