Family trips to Orlando are always expensive. It's worth the extra cost of the pass IMO. The lines will be LONG this time of year. You'll be able to ride 2-3 times the amount of rides with the pass, especially since your only going for two days.
Have you checked Undercover Tourist? They are a valid ticket agency (I have bought Disney tickets from them), and they do have a storefront where you can pick the tickets up rather than having them mailed.
I highly recommend checking out disboards.com for any and all information you might want to know about a disney trip. You could ask a question like, "What is the best way to get from Animal kingdom Lodge to Hoop dee doo Review for dinner?" and shortly you will not only get answers, but probably maps of exactly where to walk from the boat dock and the minutes it should take.
While I usually book my disney trips myself, I recently used Magical Vacation Travel and got a great deal (38% off our room at the Polynesian).
One tip, if you have a Target red card, is to buy the disney entertainment cards there and save 5%. You can also stack your pharmacy rewards card for a total of nearly 10% off. When you multiply that out over $3000 or so, that's not nothin'.

I'm in Florida now, and did Legoland yesterday. It wasn't crowded but the staff said they are gearing up for the huge crowds next week. Universal is going to be even crazier. We drove by Universal and Disney and traffic was already intense. Good luck!
