So I've narrowed down my next adventure down to two different areas.
1. Start in Egypt, go thru N. Africa, Western Spain (I Love Spain), and end in Portugal.
2. Argentina, Chile, (maybe Bolivia), and end in Peru.
I'm kinda nervous about N. Africa considering how things are right now. However, I am Arab but I'm also American and I'm SUPER Americanized. I do understand Arabic but I'm not from N. African and their dialect is very different. I've been to Spain twice and its probably my favorite country. Portugal doesn't get any love!
I know very basic Spanish so I'd need to learn some more before this trip. Part of me always wanted to include Antarctica with S. America but its so crazy expensive to get down there! Plus, I just went thru Eastern Europe during the holidays...definitely over walking thru ice and snow! Yea I know, no Brazil. I've heard of alot of different people Brazil is way overrated and I know its pretty expensive there now. I've heard nothing about good things about Argentina and Peru.
I'm not very familiar with these two areas of the world especially S. America. I'd be traveling solo but I'm a male and with my looks, I wouldn't stand out too much.
Both sound like great adventures, but just, from the little I know about the first one, I would be inclined to do the Chili/Argentina adventure. WE have not done Egypt but have friends and family members who have; they all say the very same thing, they are not sorry they did it, but they would never go back. Take it for what it is worth. I agree with you about Spain; one of our favorite places, though we haven't been there in years.
Did you get out to Goreme (Cappadocia)? I had a chance to visit the region in early 2012, and it was mind-blowing. Although it was cold in March when I went, and my room (in one of the caves) didn't have working heat, it was a fascinating place. The hot air balloon trip was worth every penny. Although the region is very tourist-centric, it is still a bit cheaper than American or European standards. There is also a casserole type meal that they cook sealed in a clay pot that is an excellent way to end a day of touring, along with a nice cold Efes.

Although the first one does sound like a great one, I would choose the second one. North Africa (except maybe Morocco) is probably still a bit sketchy.
