The trend now is to buy American made products. With that in mind if at all possible I want to spend my money in America and fly on American Airlines.
I feel a bit guilty flying overseas and spending my money in a foreign country but occasionally I will go to Europe. But I always insist on flying an American based airline that hires Americans and spends it's money on American products so Americans can work.

Do you agree?
I always fly Delta or United when fly overseas. Unless its between 2 foreign countries. Vacationing in places like Europe wouldn't hurt. Europeans come here too and spend on our tourist economy
Code sharing makes this impractical.
You can book on Delta but you won't actually know what you are flying on until you get to the airport - Air France? KLM?

Not Really True, If you book a CodeShared flight, its on the booking screen it will say, DL xxxx Operated by KLM YYYY (In a small Font, but its there)

Yeah I know. I was going to add that. The point still is that you can't avoid a foreign airline sometimes. Book a delta flight, you may get AF or KLM, etc.

Do you also make sure you fly Boeing and not Airbus? or Embraer? or Bombardier? Oh wait, nevermind, most of the Dreamliner's pieces come from overseas anyway.
But back to your question -- hell no. I try hard not to pass judgment but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
I go with the airline that best fits my needs for the trip. For domestic travel, that's going to be either Delta or Southwest 95% of the time. Overseas, it's a price and schedule issue. I'm not going to go with a fifth freedom American flight that happens once a day when a non-American airline offers multiple flight options at far cheaper prices.
I've got a good friend who works for the feds, who have a rule about having to use American carriers in name when there is an option to do so. They normally make their own flight arrangements and the first person in their travel group that figures out how to book an Asian carrier through code shares on those trips to Japan or China gets the extra donut because those carriers offer a far better flight experience for them than sticking with American metal does for the same price billed to taxpayers.
