Great selection of places in the Indian subcontinent.... after visiting 55 countries I must say India ranks as one of my all time favorite destinations. I've been to the North and parts of the South but i've always wanted to visit Kerala and also the Himalayan region north of Delhi (Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim etc.)
Those are beautiful! India is one of those places I want to go, though I'll need to have at least two week off and plan a trip perfectly to determine where I want to spend my time. It's one of those countries that is so large and has so many different regions that it's hard to pick where I'd want to visit as a first-timer there. Some day I will see the Himalayas though...
I've been to #9 - Matheran. I've been to India 4 times actually. The rugged escarpments are very much like the American southwest. It was beautiful but it would have been more breathtaking if the views and ridges were not spotted with the every present refuse - wrappers, bottles, plastic bags, etc.. Even in the middle of nowhere, in India you have trash. Have Indians never heard of a trash can?
India is the country where lot of religious people are living, and it has great number of beautiful places to visit.
