Hey folks, seems like we may be downsizing from our tent trailer back to tent camping. See several tents online and at stores. Can anyone recommend a good tent for family with 3 kids. Want to consider multiple room vs one big room and ease of setting up tent. Any brand or models people have good luck with?
So many choices. we went to a camping store and told the salesman what we wanted a walked out with a very durable product from Eureka called the Copper Canyon. we are very happy with it. Camping Tents, Family Tents, Backpacking Tents | Eureka Tents
With such a wide range of suitable tents for the number of people you plan to camp ...
the big questions are:
1) how much time will you be using the tent? a few nights per year? weeks at a time?
2) what weather conditions do you anticipate camping in? is this a fair weather only use, or do you plan of 3 or 4 season camping where more interior space is a concern?
3) will you be car campsite camping or packing in to remote locations?
4) what's your budget range? do you want/need a pro quality outfitter tent, or is the run-of-the-mill sporting goods chain store inexpensive "family tent" ... lightweight shelter for infrequent fair weather use ... sufficient for your needs?
There are numerous suppliers of quality tents throughout the price ranges. Perhaps visiting with a salesperson at one of the larger well-known outdoor suppliers will give you a direction for your requirements. Consider Cabela's or similar outfits as a resource ....
I would definitely recommend one of the "pop-up" tents that pops up like an umbrella.
If your kids are older, you might want to buy 2 or 3 smaller tents. I like having several tents -- at least one to store chothes and use as a changing room. I think the big tents with several rooms are too much hassle to put up and take down, a few smaller tents can accomplish the same thing. Older kids might like to have a small tent they can use for backpacking or on family trips.
Sorry for the delay...kids are mixed sex and 7-12. Wouldn't be camping in the colder months, so probably not a "pro" tent. Would not be for snow. Don't know if kids want to be alone in own tent yet...bigfoot and stuff. Would not be a backpacking tent, more of a drive to campsite kind of deal.
Thx so far.
