Because I work in the oil industry, I spend 85 to 90% of my time away from my family. I have a loving and understanding family and I think GOD for having an understanding wife. She has been mom and dad for the last several years. I travel between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Rio de Janeiro, and Houston. After careful reflection the wife and I decided to stay in the Honolulu Hawaii area. I have decided to take the entire Summer off for vacation. I planned for 6 months. The kids love the beaches, crime is low, they just love their school and my wife is involved in all of the the housewife activities she can. The kids are starting Summer Vacation and I promised them an Asian vacation. We have been blessed with 5 adorable children. They know the Hawaiian dialect better than most natives, LOL. We could have been together in Rio de Janiero but the wife felt safer with the kids in Honolulu since I travel extensively. The company would have paid for housing, school, a driver, security, etc. We are both natives of Los Angeles. Here is where I need the help, I know where we are going. I just want to know the best sights for families; because I always travel for business.
1. We are going to start the vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii, the kids want to see the black and red sand beaches.
2. We are going to Kyoto, Japan-need help with sights for kids.
3. We are headed to Tokyo, Japan-need help with sights for kids.
4 We will travel to Hong Kong- same help
5. We will travel to Shanghai-same help
6. We will travel to Beijing-same help.
7. After China we will travel to Singapore for a few days same help.
8. After Singapore Dubai for a week, I know we will drive the sand dunes, ski in the mall, swim and any other suggestions..
9 Abu Dhabi I have few sights in mind any suggestion appreciated.
10. I have 1 business meeting in Moscow any suggestions for the kids.
11. Then to Los Angeles to spend the rest of the Summer with Grandparents. Thanks for any suggestions, I want the kids and the wife to have the Summer of their lives.

Here's a website with suggestions for children's activities in Kyoto:
Kyoto Travel Guide <Official>///Leisure

In Tokyo, there's Tokyo Disney, highly recommended. Also, there's Tokyo Sea Life Park (aquarium) and the Tokyo Zoo. Tokyo Tower will give them a look at the city core like the Space Needle in Seattle, and it has a fun souvenir mall downstairs. There's also a temple beside it. Skip the Emperor's Palace in Tokyo, and see the one in Kyoto.

While you're all in Japan, I recommend taking the family to a water park or hot springs, although they can be very crowded. You didn't mention how old your kids are, but unless they're really small, they're sure to get a kick out of Akihabara, the geek/hi tech/anime neighbourhood in Tokyo:

I can only offer some advice on Hong Kong regarding things that may be fun for a family.

First, a good half day trip up to the Po Lin monastery with the giant Buddha is in order. You get there by cable car from the Citygate mall at Tung Chung (there is an MRT station at Tung Chung); the ride is about 15-20 minutes each way, and if the weather is clear you get great views of the planes taking off from HKIA as well as Lantau island. The monastery, as well as the surrounding area of Ngong Ping should provide at least a half day of activity. The Tian Tan Buddha is one of the largest seated Buddha's in the world.

Certainly a trip up to the peak is in order. There is the peak tram, or bus service to get to the top where you are rewarded with fantastic views of HK island and Kowloon.

Mong Kok area has many interesting markets, including a bird market, though the area can be very crowded with people.

Hong Kong also has a Disneyland resort, and a resort called Ocean Park on HK island.

Another fun thing to do is take the ferry to Macau. Be advised this will require passing through immigration (passport control) both into Macau and back into HK, but it is a fun day trip. There are probably less young kid activities here, but there is quite a bit of Portuguese history here. (Watch out for the stampeding hordes of Chinese trying to rush off the ferry to make a beeline for the casinos.)

Yet another fun ferry ride is out to the HK island of Cheung Chau, and of course a ride on the Star Ferry is both cheap and obligatory for tourists.
