I went from New York City to San Francisco on greyhound and you do meet some real 'characters'. I met some of the nicest people while travelling.
But 3 days and nights greyhound is tiring. A short trip should be OK.
I'm sure there are people with bad experiences but that's possible no matter how you travel.

I took one from Seattle to MO once, boy, it just wasnt worth saving a few bucks for. Now I only ride 'em if the trip is only a few hours, not a few days.
You meet some real 'winners' on those trips, yikes!

Default Does Amtrak go to Binghamton NY from NYC?

I'm trying to get to Binghamton and do not wanna take the bus if I can avoid it. I have no car, and really hoping to get a train there. Any advice?

To me I just see the kind of folks that hang out around the station in Atlanta. Mostly dirty smaelly homeless people. That tells me I would rather be waterboarded than get on a Greyhound!

I rode one a few times from Tx. to Ill.
Talk about a long, drawn out, boring trip.
Yes...the people are quite interesting that you meet. LOL

I used to ride Greyhound or Trailways from Philadelphia to DC or Charlottesville, VA. Being a teenage girl riding alone, I had more than a couple of sexual harassments. The driver threw one guy out on the PA Turnpike after he kissed me when I fell asleep. More than one driver asked me to sit in the seat near him so he could watch over me.
I found the bus a reasonable way to go between those Eastern cities. Don't think I'd care to take one further unless I had to (expense/no car). Longer train travel is way expensive.

I took not a Greyhound but a Star of America Bus from Indianapolis,Indiana to Huntsville,Alabama. 430 miles---7 hrs. It was pretty good. There was only about 25 people on the bus so it wasnt really crowded. I got my own seat plus the one next to me. Television/Movie was available along this trip for those who wanted it.We stopped about every 2.5 hours to stretch our legs or eat. I really enjoyed the scenery going along I-65 through Kentucky/Tennessee.
