I've used uber. I think it's a great idea. The drivers I have had have been much better than the taxi drivers.

Maybe Uber and lyft have better drivers than the regulated government bribe paying taxi industry.

None of them were the cab driver's fault.

1. Stupid lady put her car into reverse and slammed into us at the airport loading area.
2. Snow plow ran red light and t-boned cab.
3. Elderly man rear ended cab stopped at red light.

I've used Uber a lot in the DC area. It's fantastic to see a line of people waiting for a cab, and we just stroll across the street to our waiting Uber car. Cars are clean and new, drivers super friendly, and the cost is usually less than a cab ride. I think it's great.

I use Uber ALL THE TIME. It's great, especially when you're in an area where it's hard to flag down a traditional cab. Recently, DC passed a law or something requiring taxi cabs to accept credit cards. Before that, Uber was the best way to get home when I didn't have any cash on me. I've been really happy with the regular Uber drivers but I've had a couple of bad UberX drivers.

I also love Car 2 Go! Don't know if any of you have used that but it also makes it easier to be car free.

I haven't, but after looking at the prices, I don't think I would. Then again, they might not be as bad as other cab companies. I was scabbed by a local cab company here, ugh.

I very rarely use a taxi (years go by between times). I know folks who use Uber and love it. But as a petite middle aged woman, I have real issues getting into a car with a stranger who hasn't had a thorough background check. Some states/cities are requiring this of these new services, and I think that's a great idea. There have been incidents where this has been a real issue, and I'm sure many incidents went unreported.

Just used Lyft too this weekend. Similar system to Uber. Great drivers, good conversations.

Actually here in Orlando you'll find these drivers work for both Uber and Lyft to make sure they keep busy. At some point one company will buy out the other I feel.

Apparently a 3rd car-sharing service is coming here too.

Glad to hear a good review in Orlando. I'll be there in November with family doing the theme park thing. Staying at Disney and needing traspo to/from Universal.

They seem to be best in major cities (NYC, SF, etc.), not so much in smaller cities (think 2nd-tier). I hear about a 50/50 split of good/bad experiences and myself have had one bad one in NYC. Not all that confidence-inspiring.
