Why not? Be more specific on your question and to let us know that this isn't a failed spambot attempt.

I plan on doing this next year. The reason? I have absolutely no desire to scale the mountain. But I would like to see it. Hiking to the base camp from Lhasa should be quite a trip indeed.

It is the closest you can get to the top of the world without significant training, gear, expense, and risk.

It sounds like fun, right? I've thought about doing it myself.

Just getting to base camp is a big accomplishment in itself. And I would think exciting and adventurous.

Anyone who considers the toilets a huge priority on a Himalayan trek has no business going there in the first place.

You're doing it from Lhasa? I've never heard of anyone approaching an Everest base camp from that side before, but I've only researched Nepal's treks anyways. Are the permits and stuff crippling from Tibet? I thought you couldn't even go there without a personal guide, and only at a certain time of year.

I was looking at doing the Everest base camp hike from Jiri in Nepal, but ending the trip just above Namche Bazaar where the views look great. I don't want to ascend much higher than 3600ish metres. Flying to Lukla is a nono for me since Namche is just two days away by foot. This way is 9 days each direction, though, so I'm looking at doing a hike in the Annapurnas that would last 6 days round instead (Mardi Himal trek).

I've watched a bunch of Everest summit documentaries, and to be honest, it seems to be getting way out hand. It gets pretty frustrating hearing people describe climbing the mountain as being 'like a war', as if they had no choice and were forced to do the climb (which costs about the same as a small mortgage to arrange, by the way). There's hundreds of summits a year so it's not as impressive a thing as it once was, and then all these people die refusing to heed the warnings of agencies and Sherpas who plead for them to pace themselves.

you won't see Everest from the base camp, but bring a garbage bag and carry out some of the trash with you
