I traveled from Chicago to Paris and stayed in Paris for a week. While there I took 1 25 mg pill of Benadryl nightly to fall asleep. Didn't sleep well but got maybe 3-4 hours in each night.

Got back to Chicago last week...first 3-4 nights it was the same; 3-4 hours of rest. Waking up around 1, 2, 3 am.

NOW...past 2 nights I've slept 11-12 hours. Usually waking up around the 10th hour. Is this jet lag? Or was the jet lag the precious 4 nights I haven't been sleeping in Chicago?

Or is all of it jet lag? I only spent a week there and I returned a week ago...I should be fully adjusted now right??

They say it typically takes about one day to adjust for each time zone. I guess that's about right. Every time I travel to Asia, it seems like it takes me a week to return to normal. I guess that's a little faster than one day for each time zone, but close.

I typically get on the local schedule within 24 hours or so of arriving eastbound. It can take me two days per time zone west bound to the US from Europe or to anyplace across the Pacific from the US, although if I'm only going to the west coast I'm usually good to go after the first day.

One time, a friend of mine who had recently returned from a vacation was complaining about being jet-lagged from his flight.

To which, one of the other people there replied, "But, you were flying NORTH."
