In the past, I've used my business address on my luggage tags since I don't like to give crooks notice when I'm not going to be at home. Now, however, I'm no longer working for a company, but out of my house.
Is it okay to put a P.O. Box number on the luggage tags? In the case of a lost bag, would it be returned to the post office for delivery to my p.o. box?
My son just flew back to college on Alaska Airline. Their website has a form to fill out that you put IN your luggage on top of everything else. I then paid for his checked bag online and was able to print a ticket with instructions to fold it and attach it to the outside of the luggage. The barcode on the printed tag lead to all his information online for the airline.
I would never put a home address on a piece of luggage. The airlines call before attempting to deliver lost bags anyway, so make sure you have good phone numbers listed instead.
I have never used a luggage tag of any sort, though I should consider doing so in the future. One reason why I haven't done so is out of fear of my information getting into the wrong hands (plus, I rarely check my bags). But I guess a cell phone number and email address are harmless enough.
We always put the address of our travel agency, but today a lot of people don't use one so name & phone # would be the next best option.
