... I loved Budapest and Venice, for example, while others here did not. No one is right or wrong, it's subjective and depends on the specific experience you have in a place, generally.

I also loved Budapest and Venice. It was important for me to get away from the busiest tourist spots and explore the back streets and historic neighborhoods. See the opulent interiors of the palaces. Dine in an extraordinary restaurant (I don't have to sing the praises of either Hungarian nor Northern Italian cuisine) ... I also can't understand why someone would not like Amsterdam with it's amazing architecture, rich history - city of Rembrandt and Anne Frank, world class museums and great restaurants and nightlife.

Brussels. Okay there is the Grand Place with the ornate Renaissance style guild halls. There's also the small statue of a little boy urinating ... big deal. I found all the touristy chocolate shops and lace shops rather tacky. Want to see something fabulous in Belgium? Visit Brugge - I've been there three times! It's lovely.
I loved Venice! It's my favorite city in the world! Rome -- Rome did nothing for me. (Since I guess the Vatican City isn't actually considered to be "Rome," I will say that I found St. Peter's to be amazingly beautiful.)
What's disappointing to one person is the best place another has ever visited. I loved Budapest and Venice, for example, while others here did not. No one is right or wrong, it's subjective and depends on the specific experience you have in a place, generally.
This is true because we are all interested in different things.
I would return to Budapest and Venice before Rome and Paris.
