I found Zurich very sterile and dull. You could check out the whole town in a day.

I can't imagine being disappointed by any of these.

Cardiff - agree
Helsinki - pleasant people but not much there
Frankfurt - disappoints almost everyone
Birmingham - ditto

can't think of any others right now.

I didn't care much for Amsterdam.

I also loved Budapest and Venice. It was important for me to get away from the busiest tourist spots and explore the back streets and historic neighborhoods. See the opulent interiors of the palaces. Dine in an extraordinary restaurant (I don't have to sing the praises of either Hungarian nor Northern Italian cuisine) ... I also can't understand why someone would not like Amsterdam with it's amazing architecture, rich history - city of Rembrandt and Anne Frank, world class museums and great restaurants and nightlife.

Disappointing cities in Europe?

Brussels. Okay there is the Grand Place with the ornate Renaissance style guild halls. There's also the small statue of a little boy urinating ... big deal. I found all the touristy chocolate shops and lace shops rather tacky. Want to see something fabulous in Belgium? Visit Brugge - I've been there three times! It's lovely.

For me it would be Porto, Portugal and Manchester, England. And except for the ruins, Athens was dirty and awful..and expensive.

Out of the cities listed, Brussels is the least memorable.

This is true because we are all interested in different things.

I would return to Budapest and Venice before Rome and Paris.
