Anybody heading to Belgium on Wednesday, April 22 should be aware that no trains will be running due to a strike by the Belgian Trade Union ACOD. Socialist trades union stages general strike on 22 April

Thanks for sharing. Honestly, the risk of massive strikes, no matter how "small," is a huge reason why I try to keep certain destinations off of my list. There's a threat of serious headache and financial pain for those who have to live through that.

We had purchased travel insurance on a Europe trip several years ago. We learned in Seville that that Portuguese train workers went on strike and we had planned to train to Lisbon. Insurance picked up the rental car, gas and a flat tire along the way. Very little disruption to the trip and the car added much more flexibility.

There are very few destinations where we would not travel simply due to the unlikely possibility of a strike, particularly if there are other options.
