What would be a good place to park my car on an annual basis? I will be moving overseas for at least a year and need to park it somewhere. I can't store it at my current home since I will be moving and putting my things in storage.

Well in storage.... But the Car needs to be prep'ed for long term storage. Or Leave it with family and have them drive it some each once a week.

One Question.. IS the cost of storing it more then it worth.

Had relative that was overseas, for one/two year assignment, turned into a five year assignment, there 7yo car went into storage, came out 5 years later, its now a 12yo car high mileage car, that was in so/so shape when it started. Parts were hard to find to fix it, lots of things dried out from being in storage.

They would have done better to sell the car, and get a "new" car when they returned. Wound up costing them more to store the car and "Stuff" then it all was worth.

The I need to keep stuff easily could have fit in someone closet,

What would it cost (approximately) to store a car? Mine is fairly new. It's a 2013 Nissan Sentra with only 7,300 miles.

I bought it for $15,798.34 in 11/2013 &, according to kbb.com, it is currently worth $12,905 so I would lose about $3,000 if I were to sell it for full market value.

Depends where you are...

You would need to have it prep'ed, put gas conditioner in it, would be good to get the tires off the ground.

If you have time, you can build wood support shelving to put stuff above the cars hood. (on the shelving) then move the car in to the garage/storage area. then put stuff in it, then fill up the door side of the storage area.

It may be because in our area there's not a lot of competition but when I checked, it was going to be apprx $100 a month for a car.

for LONG term storage... need:
  • climate control.
  • Marine Grade fuel Stabilizer,
  • and up on blocks.
  • VERY Well protected from mice / rodents
  • Battery removed an on trickle charge.
  • Will be $100+/ month.
if I had a generic / replaceable car... I would sell it or gift it to family or charity. You will probably want something different when (if) you return.

one less worry is good for more enjoyment of trip!

There are professional vehicle storage places if you decide to keep it,

HEAT/sunlight is the killer (plastics / paint / hoses / tires)
Bury it!

So weigh the $3k loss against the cost of prepping and storing the car, plus worrying about what condition it will be in when you get back.

When we left the country for 3 months we left our cars with friends who moved them around every week or so. The one friend, a single woman who lives in a fairly isolated place, said she was glad to have our car parked in front of her house-- made it look like someone was home all day. The other friend lived in a suburban condominium with plenty of guest parking spaces.

Any of your friends or family want to lease/borrow it from you? As you can see, theres a lot more to it than just parking it somewhere.

You should really think about just selling it.
But, like has been stated - prep it for storage. In a year gas will turn to varnish, internal engine seals will dry out and open up, animals and bugs will make it a home and eat stuff or use it for nests - foam, rubber, electrical wiring, etc.
