I'd go most anywhere if someone else was paying. If I'm paying? I could happily enjoy places that aren't SE Asia, China, West Africa. If I never get back to many American states, I'd not cry.

It would be too bad if people write off West Africa. I've been to Ghana twice and would go again - well, I have to since I have family there. There's great food sold roadside (which I had reservations about - then I ate some and shut up). I got to walk above a forest canopy, streamed anime, and enjoyed a nice, uncrowded beach. BTW, Ghana is on the eastern part of West Africa and ebola didn't become an issue.

Back to the topic at hand, I suppose I haven't much desire to see Europe, with the exception of Germany.

I just came here to see how Florida fared, so far I've not been too disappointed. New Jersey might be the dark horse in this race however.
As far as places that hold little interest for me to visit, Abu Dhabi and Qatar top my list. I'm sure the everyday locals are delightful I just have issues with conspicuous consumption for the sake of conspicuous consumption.

Based on this thread, no, it's not.

Mikeyyc, I tend to agree with you. Reading this thread, I actually realized that many of the posters must live in "perfect" suburbs or rural areas. The best fantasy land that America can produce.

To the original question, I'll tend to go anywhere as long as I feel safe. Having been raised in a big city, what I consider safe is vastly different from many of the other posters.

1. Anywhere outside the Continental United States, including Canada and Mexico. I will spend my limited amount of money in my own country, contributing to my own economy!
2. Anyplace with "Disney" in the name.
3. In general, anyplace East of the Mississippi River, with a few exceptions:
a. The cemetery in Martinsburg, PA, to visit the family plot(s).
b. Civil war battlefield parks. I visited some around Chattanooga a couple years ago.

Sadly there are lots of places in our own nation that are unworthy or unsafe for travel. You never hear anyone say "do you want to see my pictures of my vacation to Detroit??"

I don't like anything in FL except the keys. It's too flat, too humid and has too many chain restaurants. The Taj Mahal was really special and Delhi was educational, but I wouldn't go back to India. Aruba is way too windy. Costa Rica just didn't live up to expectations. And the big cities ..... go there once but not again. I'm not into museums, especially art, and paying exorbitant prices for tiny old hotel rooms (in many cases without AC) doesn't make me happy. In fact, the entire price point for vacations in those cities is a turn off. For example, I can get wonderful food at a fraction of the price in Krakow.
