Completely irrelevant semantics.

I don't know why we need to "agree" to anything ... we've been saying the same thing all along. You're the only one who's been arguing anything.

Southwest vs Legacy seating or not, asking people to switch uneven seats on the plane is irresponsible. Seriously. Ask the gate agent at check-in or at the actual gate before asking other passengers. Odds are, if you're nice to them they can move a few people around and make it happen.

By uneven seats I mean this. I would trade a row 7-aisle for a row 12-aisle but not a row 35-aisle. Trading only works if the instigator takes a worse or even seat, not better. The displaced can only benefit or be pretty even.

Would you trade a 35 aisle/window for a 5-7 middle?

But your carry on are still back at row 35, so you will be the LAST person of the plane...

Take carry-on out of the equation

I wouldn't trade ANY window or isle seat for ANY middle. I don't care if I am the last person off. What's the hurry?

Depends on the length of flight, whether the 5-7 middle is an extra legroom product, if I've got a tight connection and domestic vs. international.

I've taken the middle seat up front when I've got a short connection (love having 35 minutes to get to the next plane in MSP or Atlanta) and would consider it for a US-Europe or US-Canada/Central America/Caribbean flight without preclearance because there are fewer people ahead of you in the immigration line.

And thus my original concern. Many people prefer the aisle or window thus leaving multiple empty middle seats. Thus my concern with open seating in the first place. I like to know beforehand where I/family am assigned so I can try to resolve it before the flight not during

No. If I've been on the flight 3+ hours, I can wait another 8 min to get off. I would not take a middle seat, unless it is Economy Plus. Then yes.

Southwest is best for when you want to check luggage. That's because two checks bags fly free.
