When I used to ride Greyhound (I refuse to do so now as too many creeps are on there, which is odd as Greyhound is more expensive generally than many other services, including Megabus, etc.), I tried my best NOT to fall asleep as I was afraid that I'd get shanked or be robbed in my sleep.

What buses are you riding that you might get shanked on the bus? The bus to Detroit or something? One with a mentally ill person? That sounds just like the bus from Atlantic City though, minus the shanking part.
Is Greyhound really that much cheaper than Amtrak?
You can go from NYC to DC for $17 round trip four weeks from now. (leaving 9 in the morning and getting to NY 10:30 or 12:30 at night) You can do the same thing on Amtrak on Wed January 27 6 months from now for $104. Most routes aren't that extreme but it's always a lot. Also, I was in the back about five cars behind the engine and heard the horn honking for 5 hours. Unless they have like 16+ car trains I think that'd be worse for falling asleep than a bus. They have no sense too, they put the quiet car in the front and the restaurant car in the caboose.
I was riding a greyhound once and while trying to figure out who were the lunatics that I needed to keep an eye out for, suddenly realized that I was the LUNATIC!!! Bwhahahahaha... victory is mine!
I have no problem sleeping, until that nice stranger spoons up from behind and licks your ear...
