Punta Mita is very remote and most people never leave the resort. It's an hour drive to Puerto Vallarta. The golf courses are spectacular. You will need very little cash there. You should be thankful that the company is paying as it's a very expensive resort.

That's what I figured. I think I read it's grouped inside a very large gated compound with 4 seasons and some restaurants/shops around or am I wrong?

Yes, happy that the company is paying for it but he works very hard and he deserves it

Wow, I think you'll have a wonderful time! The maids at our hotel (definitely downscale from yours!) have told me that they like being tipped in US dollars. It's easier for them to save it as it requires a trip to the bank to convert the dollars into pesos. Either way, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the info. We're getting excited! We're going to bring about $100 cash for tipping.

Congratulations, you will surely have a great time there!

My two Mexican peso centavos is to bring your Amex card. It is probably the most versatile card you can have while traveling in Mexico. While getting gas at a Pemex station, all my credit cards' attempted charges failed except that of Amex.

Moreover, you Amex card can be easily used to withdraw Pesos from Mexican ATM (use ones from the airport or the banks), and the cash withdrawal fee is very reasonable as compared to that of any other bank card. Just make sure to get the four-digits pin number before the trip from Amex so you can make cash advances.

Ok getting excited here. Just to clarify I'm bringing $100 cash for tips. We'll use CC's for shopping or drinks the company doesn't cover. Should I bring it all in 5's or a mixture of singles and 5's?? TIA

Bring mostly singles. A one dollar tip is a much bigger deal in Mexico than the US.

Banks all have different ATM Rates. The Bank I frequent charges 25.52 Mexican Pesos today that is about $1.43 USD. I find the Bank is pretty close to the Daily Exchange Rate, but places that take Credit Card Payments usual have a better Exchange Rate. I have a MasterCard and can't buy anything from Mexico on the Internet whether I am in the US or Mexico, but works fine at ATMs and Point of Sale. Go figure.
