I'm looking to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time in my life and travel outside of the US. I'll be going over spring break, which is the only time I'll be able to get an extended break from work and school. Let me start out by saying what I'm looking for and then you can base your recommendations on that. I definitely want to spend a day out on the water deep sea fishing. If I could get into a sailfish or two, the would be awesome, but catching tuna and mahi mahi all day (or whatever is biting in March) wouldn't be bad either. I also don't want to be stuck in a resort my whole trip. I want to be able to explore the city and not worry about being kidnapped if that's in the realm of possibilities. Since I'll most likely be making the trip alone, it would be nice to be around some other tourists, but at the same time, I don't want the drunken spring break experience typical of say Panama City beach stateside. Price is also a major factor in the equation, right after my personal safety. Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Not sure about the fishing, but for all other aspects I would consider PV over Z.

I go to PV or Cabo almost every year. Both are very safe and both have good fishing.

Let's just say that Zihuatanejo is more laid back (when there's no cruise ship arriving) and authentic than PV.
PV is almost like an American city ... a little San Diego.
I would recommend Z over PV.

PV is a proper city (and now a very nice one), with lots of alternative choices for things to do.
