Does anyone have memories of the kind of "old school" entertainment that used to be provided on airplanes? Or, maybe it still is. I don't fly that often.
If there is anything today I'm sure it's a lot more advanced. But I'm interested in some of the kinds of radio channels that they used to have. Back when there was a more limited selection.
Now: Individual screens and selection of new movies, news, documentaries, oldies, games, music... whatever you wish...

Most newer planes are built without individual screens now. Instead passengers stream movies/tv through your own device (in coach, some airlines have complimentary iPads in first).

Was pre-recorded Music played in a loop, Maybe some sort of talk show, a movie, all feed thru Air driven EarPhones.
That's what I remember. It seems like each station would play the same 10 songs over and over. I actually enjoyed that, but I was young enough to be easily entertained.
I'm curious if the songs were top 40, critically acclaimed, or what? For example, I remember hearing something by one band, but I haven't been able to find it. That's why I'm thinking it wasn't just the "hits" on the radio. Maybe more obscure album tracks. I also remember odd music on the same station, the type you wouldn't hear on pop radio.
I think the old style music entertainment channels (via headsets) are still available on international flights.

As far as $2 charge for headphones, those would be pretty cheap ones if they let you keep them. I remember the ones that they let us borrow (wrapped in plastic) seemed pretty solidly built.
Yes, The current Earphones are Ipod Type "Electronic" earphones, Most people bring there own, higher quality ones.
The Old ones were "Pneumatic Headphone" the sound waves were pushed thru slightly pressured air. They would change out the ear pieces after use, re-wrap them, for next use.
We flew Air Canada in December and there were no screens at all on the plane. You could use your own personal iPad or rent one for $10. We were not aware of this, nor could we download the Air Canada app to stream the movies. We were able to on the return flight but still didn't have the same option of movies that were available to those who rented their iPads. Not amused at all.
