So I have a case that's a Richardo one about 10 years old I think it's about 8-10 Lbs empty.. last took it with me for a week to the Dominican Republic last year in April coming back I was like 3 lbs over 50 lb but they did not charge me any fees..
I told myself I would be getting a new bag before I go again and I'm going again in July so I'm not sure what size the case is but looking online it seems the 29" cases look small but I know new rules are in effect but I always fly jetblue.
Any cases I should be looking for? I'm not sure on brand Samsonite seems to be decent.
I have had my Vera Bradley luggage for almost 20 years and it still looks like new. The inside compartments come out and can be washed. The patterns are beautiful and you will never have a problem finding your luggage among the black ones, and you probably will not see your pattern when traveling. I don't find the pieces to be heavy and have not had a weight problem when traveling. It was a present from DH and I know that it was a little pricey, but this luggage was a great investment for me.
I just went thru this exercise. Pop over to TJ Maxx or Ross or Marshall's. You'll get last year's models and/or weird color choices (which is a good thing) and save yourself about $100.
I assume you realize that size bag ALWAYS needs to be checked.
I bought some cheap luggage from the AAA travel store about ten yrs ago and it is still going strong so I would say look there first and you might even get a discount if you are a member .
If you don't have to see it in person, overstock.com and ebags.com seem to have good buys on luggage. Both participate in Ebates, which -- if you're not familiar with that -- gets you cash back on your purchase. Ebags has an extra 20% off Samsonite Spinners right now. samsonite spinner - eBags.com
Airfrance has new luggage size requirements that are also being considered by other U.S. airlines in the near future (from what I’ve been told). Carryon is a big factor for change and it’s now at 21” by 13” by 9” and this INCLUDES the wheels & handles. My wife and I had checked with a luggage store which told us that any of their carryons would be allowed. WRONG! Not on AirFrance at this time and possibly other airlines in time; which are looking at the new standards? We did find the correct size at the Macys in the Richardo carryon.
As for larger checked luggage bags we found that Costco has some very good bargains and priced lower than anything else we could find at the Samsonite stores in town.
