What's the psychology behind traveling the world?

I personally love to travel but it's not for everyone. I love learning about other cultures and I feel the best way is to go and spend time with them in person. Books and media can only give so much info.

I do want to travel but I have always wanted to work and travel rather than travel for travel's sake. I wanted to live in different places for a few months rather than a few days or a few weeks. The thought of having the pressure of doing a ton of things in a small amount of time stresses me out. But being in a new place and adapting to it and making friends in a new environment is how I want to live my life. I'm happy now that I'm starting in an industry that will allow me to freelance and travel after a few years of experience. I just wish I had started earlier or considered being a diplomat.

I am a bit envious I didn't get to travel more when I was younger. I had the opportunities. More so than now. My friends went everywhere but I decided not to go. I was always concerned about money. But then I ended up wasting it all on dumb things. Ah well, I grew up with nothing, so as soon as I made money, I wanted to feel what it was like to have things. I'm lucky to have experienced that. Now I'm more into intangible things and not owning a lot. I got rid of 4/5 of my wardrobe when I moved across the country. I felt like a new person. Now I'm going to move again and will need to get rid of more stuff. I've been thinking of simplifying the way I dress and just buy black if I ever need more clothes. My goal is to eventually have only enough stuff to just pack up and go.
