How pleased I am to discover 1) someone else had the bright idea to start such a thread, and 2) to recognize I have been fortunate enough to have seen many of these large cities.
I lived on the West Coast as a small child, and would like to return someday -- am only hesitant because I'd hate to spoil those wonderful memories I have of the beaches, and the weather, and weekend trips to Mexico and up the coast towards WA with my young parents.
My father was from New Orleans, so we lived close to my paternal grandparents when Dad went back to school at LSU in Baton Rouge. It's as much a fun place to be, if not more, as an adult as what it was when I was an older child.
As an adult, I've been up the Eastern Coast, as far North as Maine -- did the tourist thing of Booth Bay and the like -- and as far South as the FLA Keys. Been to NYC, Baltimore, ATL, Miami, Orlando, San Antonio and Austin, Kansas City. Still have quite a few here on the to-see list, however.
My favorite big city is, hands-down, Washington DC, and I go every chance I get -- usually to accompany my husband on business, or to visit an old college buddy. I like taking the train, going into Union Station, or heading on to Baltimore to see the Orioles play, and eat MD crabs.
We LOVE Vegas, but we also love Sarasota, and Myrtle Beach!!!! Each offer different things---Vegas: the shows, gambling, HEAT!!!! Sarasota: wonderful beaches and restaurants--relaxation! Myrtle Beach: the "Beach Bands", fun, sun, golf.....
I live 50 miles from DC--can't say it's a favorite for ANYTHING~~~~~
MB cb? Really? I moved from there bout 7 months ago. Funny, before moving there I had never thought to vacation there; then while living there I couldn't wait to move. LOL

Myrtle Beach SC. Great beach area, Broadway at the Beach, golf, alligator alley, Barefoot Landing. Good choice of restaurants for a smaller city too.
