30? Seriously? LOL
The thing is, your pace might be down, but you can pay more attention to details, and details are what sticks in your memory. Yes, I was able to sleep on the lap of a stone monument when I was 17, I can't do it now, in my early 50-es, but the only things that stops me now is work and visa limitations.

I traveled a lot when my son was young to let him see the world and hopefully let him see beyond the local pool and sports fields and establish goals for his life.

Sometimes joining a tour group is almost a necessity, travelling alone in Egypt is extremely dangerous. Europe travel can be done in various ways, it's nice to see you have enjoyed your tour package too.
That tour package the first time to Europe was a lot of fun and gave me great memories. The weather was fantastic, too - it was the month of May and mild, only rained a few times and that was mostly in England. You should definitely go back to Crater Lake since the weather wasn't that great when you went last time.

I have always wanted to travel to Egypt, India, Turkey, and Morocco. I dream of visiting Petra in Jordan, too with the pink palace. Maybe, I will go in a few years, but when I do go, it will definitely be with a tour group.

My mother went to Egypt ten years ago and she was very impressed. You just have to be more cautious when you travel to third world countries.

Travelling while young is an admirable dream. But, it's tough for young people to do a ton of travelling. They have to get funds from somewhere, even travelling on a shoestring budget is tough without working in some fashion here and there.

Now that I'm older, I can appreciate the joys of travelling in some comfort and style. Once in a while, it's nice to dine in a restaurant rather than surviving on street vendor food. It's nice to have a hotel room rather than a hostel bunk. It's nice to see a live theatre show from a decent seat. Etc. You don't have the money for that when you're 21, generally.
I had lived abroad for quite a while when I was younger. Actually living in another country and speaking their language can be totally different from international travel. I don't really recommend it to everyone.

Long story short, a two-week vacation in an interesting place is better than anything else.

Have done SF to Copenhagen, Sydney ($10 even during New Years fireworks,)

Many time to DC and NYC as a family, usually for free, sometimes $10 -$20. Host picked us up and delivered us to rail station. Same in London last month.

Of course you can travel further, the air tickets are not that expensive if you do more research online.

There are many kinds of travel, fancy international travel to Europe requires more money and time, outdoor activities near where you live require physical well-being. I personally believe being involved is more interesting than seeing attractions, and health is more valuable than money. I can accumulate more money and enjoy more luxury travels in retirement age, but I won't be able to do sea kayak at some point.
Right. But my parents always did the same kinds of things over and over again for vacation, which for my dad mostly meant lying around in bed and eating when it was time for meals.

We went to Europe last year. This year we went to Central America. The rest of my vacations this year will be in the US---actually in three weeks I'll be happily camping in the Adirondacks. I think traveling in the US is great for the variety of places to see and things to do.

I agree you should travel while you're young if you're going to turn into Jabba the hut and remain sedentary in your advancing years.

I plan on traveling well into my 90's thank you, and I don't mean just to the grocery store.
It doesn't actually have anything to do with wanting to remain sedentary. I already have osteoarthritis in my knee and I am very young. My dad has arthritis all over his body, my mom can barely walk because there is nothing left in her knee and my sister has a degenerative disc disease. My dad did physical labor and that destroyed his body. My sister is fairly active but you can't always fight the things working against you. I walk more than anyone I know yet when my bursitis in my hip acts up, it feels like someone is stabbing me. When that happens, it makes it hard to walk.

Am I the only one who suspects the OP has never really traveled at all?

That's sad. Maybe driving tour is the best option to see the natural scenery. Attending cultural events can be quite entertaining, too.
