This is a question for the experienced visitors to the Caribbean.

I kept the poll down to the top 10 most visited Caribbean countries. If you have another preference, please mention the pros and cons.

There's such a variety in the cultures, the attractions, and the amenities... So, I'm curious what the overall preferences are among travellers familiar with the Caribbean.

It has been many years, but I loved Guadeloupe, French West Indies. Lots of Canadians vacation there, due to the language obviously. I have visited twice, the first time not knowing anything about it (or that it even existed).

What was it that you especially liked about it?

Photos of it that I've seen are quite spectacular. Very hilly place, but the natural beauty is breathtaking.

First, it was truly my first vacation. It was also, other than Florida, my first experience in a tropical setting. The jungle was lush. My first waterfall...Every morning the beautiful tropical birds visited me on my hotel balcony. The sea was spectacular. The French Creole cuisine was delicious - Gosh, I'd love some etouffe about now-... Shopping ... French style clothing...very fashion-forward. I bought clothing styles that didn't come to the US for 15 years or later, seriously. Shopping (clothing) was expensive, but, hotel, food, drink were not. Best of all, the hospitality. The people in Gosier and Pointe a Pitre were so friendly.

We've been to several of the islands in the poll, as well as St Lucia and Antigua. We loved Antigua 25 years ago. it was very laid back, and you could safely travel the island any time of day. Now it's become very expensive, and less safe.

The island we keep returning to is St. Martin, the French side. Wonderful food, and lovely beaches, friendly people.

Out of your list I've been to Barbados, Puerto Rico, and USVI. Out of those Barbados was my favorite. But the BVIs, not listed, are at the top of the list. We stayed in Tortola and took ferries to Jost Van Dyke and Anegada. Took a snorkeling trip to Norman Island as well. Jost Van Dyke was beautiful, the water at White Bay was incredible. Anegada, not familiar to many folks who travel the Caribbean, was surreal. Gorgeous beaches with nobody around.

The Bahamas OUT islands are by far my favorite. Especially the Southern Bahamas!

Forget everything you know about the Bahamas when it comes to these islands..........

Yes, the sand is just as white, the water just as blue, and the people are MORE friendly than the main islands. The difference here is lack of development and mile after mile of beaches that are free from crowds!

I'd love to go to Cuba but won't anytime soon. We are headed for St. Maarten in February. I love the people there.
