Well, I guess we just read different things into that.

I dunno, maybe the OP is or maybe the OP isn't like that. But his post reeks of it.

The OP is a perfect example of what is wrong with this newest generation. Over coddled since birth, taught they are a special snowflake, indoctrinated though their entire education that socialism is great. Spoon fed a diet of reality TV, that is anything but real, that warps their entire perception of the world and how 99.9% of people on this planet live.

They hit the real world where they quickly realize stuff costs money and they are faced with the specter of supporting themselves. Suddenly talent, motivation and effort matter. For the first time, they realize not everyone gets a trophy.

Do they stop and think about reapplying themselves, going out and doing what it takes to make their own life? No. Their entire education has been built around indoctrination vs critical thinking. They well up with resentment and blame the rich, their parents, the world....anyone but themselves.

Why can't I be rich and just consume everything this world has to offer? Its not fair that I have to pay for stuff when I see people on TV walking around with $10K purses, driving $200K cars, staying in $1K a night hotels. Poor me.

Then a politician comes along promising free stuff and promising to take that $10K purse away from some rich person that has enough already and give it to them.

Then they vote for Bernie Sanders.

Thank god not all of them fall into this trap.
Save your bitterness for the politics forum, you'll fit right in.

The OP might try to find a copy of Ken Ilgunas' book Walden on Wheels, which deals with the story of a young man with a free spirit, but trapped by too-easy credit and "the system" by the age of 22 -- and of how he escaped.

Your posts are about politics not travel. You are off topic. Your posts don't belong here.

OP

You have to prioritize your future. Do you want to take a year or two off and have a working visa and work in Australia / NZ or Europe and then return to USA for further studies.

or

Do you want to learn a trade skill and earn some money, and use that to travel or even work using that skill while on a working visa.

I would suggest the latter as you might earn more, whether you travel within USA o abroad. And that will give you better travel experiences. Think hard before you drop out to follow your passions.

BTW, do not believe what you see in most travel blogs. Many of the authors are living in near poverty in one room shacks typing away their blog on a computer trying to make the place look glamorous, when the reality is quite different.

Hurricane,

IMHO, you have 50 more years to work, and there is a reason why they call it work. You are young, I assume childless, and are free. If travel is what you want figure out to get it done and how to continue on that path.

Many years ago I worked for the concession at Grand Canyon National Park, started work on my 18th birthday. Over the course of 3 years I worked for 90 days and then took a month or so off to travel. Absolutely the best time of my life. Without going into the boring details of my life, I went to law school in my early thirties, now work for myself. While I can only take a month off every 18 months or so, cool travel still happens................ and I am perpetually broke!!! (Did a week in Beijing for $1000 bucks recently. Could have done it for less but the visa was around 120 bucks )

If I read your post that you want to travel and live like a celebrity I got nothing for you. If on the other hand you want a non-boring, adventurous life I will tell you to avoid the conventional wisdom. Do not buy into the "accomplish by x age" pressures spouted by well-meaning family members and guidance counselors. In high school I told my HS counselor I wanted to go work on the pipeline in Alaska (this was many years ago). The counselor, while I'm sure thinking she was acting in my best interest, prepared a three-ring binder of articles stating how it was not a good financial move. This woman clearly missed the point................. they had us read Jack London, Kerouac, stories about the golden age of exploration, then tell us to fall in line with 4 years of college, grad school, a 30 year mortgage, 2 kids (in that precise order). Not to pick on the guidance counselor but if she was working to her "full potential" we wouldn't be having a meeting in a basement speaking across a metal desk . The biggest mistakes I've made in my life is taking advice from "experts" .

Right now, go to Walgreen's/Walmart/CVS and get passport photos taken, then to the post office and get your passport............... the rest is easy.

"The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A person who lives fully is prepared to die at any time"

Come back with a good travel story. I'm sure we are all looking forward to hear from you.

And where do you think the OP is going to come up with that amount of money when he states that he has not much money. Even the 2 week ones start from $2000.

Even a passport now costs $110 + $25 execution fee plus costs for passport photographs. And this is just for standard passport book
