ok, I'm flying to Los Angeles in a few days, and I was wondering if you guys could give me any tips so I can breeze through security hassle free. My friend told me to 'dress appropriately' for security, but didn't really elaborate, so I dunno what she meant.
I know I have to take off my belt. I was told not to wear a hat. can I put my laptop in my backpack or is it better if it goes in my suitcase? I'm probably making a much bigger deal out of this than I need to...
I'm no expert, but I see guys dressed like that at the airport. It doesn't look like you're hiding anything, so you'll probaboly be fine. You do have to take your laptop out to put it thru the x-ray machine, so it would probably be less hassle in the backpack. I wouldn't put a laptop in a suitcase if the suitcase was being checked in. It could get stolen.
Your clothes are fine. Definitely put the laptop in your backpack. Not your suitcase. I would be more concerned about it getting damaged than stolen (in the suitcase)
What you're wearing is fine. Do NOT put your laptop in your suitcase or anything like a watch or camera, any electronic /technology equipment. Do not put anything of sentimental value in a suitcase.
You should wear shoes that slip on and off easily. Since you are already doing that, you'll be fine. There is nothing difficult about going through security; 3 million Americans do it every day.
Don't carry too much in your pockets, because shorts/pants pockets have to be emptied. If you're pulling out keys, coins, tissues, cellphone, to put in the tray that goes through the scanner you're only going to have to faff around once you're through, collecting them all up again. If you have a wallet, put your keys in that, or in your backpack.
