OK, this may be a weird question but I may have to fly out of Schiphol to a crazy Middle Eastern country this winter. Do I need to be worried about staff at AMS slipping "something" into my luggage that could get me into major trouble at my destination? I'm always paranoid about my luggage being used without my knowledge to transport contraband. I have the option of choosing a different European airport if that makes any difference - or does it not really matter?

I am referring to checked-in luggage of course. Does it make a difference whether it's hard shell or soft shell?

Huh? Yeah it is a pretty weird question.
You have none of these fears with the staff at AMS or ANY airport as far as I know. Stuff walking away from your luggage (i.e. stolen)- a remote possibility, most likely in said ME country. Stuff added to your luggage - so unlikely as to discount as a worry at all.

No, but I heard that at Schipol, airport staff will harvest your organs if you're not attentive.

That's only if you go in the line marked orgaanroof.

One other word of caution...make sure all of your electronics have fully charged batteries and can power on. we found this out the hard way when we had to check my husband's brand new macbook.

But yeah, I wouldn't worry about the other stuff.

I had a layover in Amsterdam once and it was no different than any other large airport.

OP.. Where the heck is this question coming from?

They are more likely to search you for drugs and such, so.. make sure you don't try to.. errr.. accidentally forget about the joint in your bag.

I don't think anything is added at Schipol. Flew from there to Tanzania this August and nothing was added.

On the other had I checked in a luggage from Nairobi to Atlanta on wary back via Schipol. My spare Windows phone ( used for free HERE maps in Amsterdam) went missing from it. Most likely taken out at Nairobi

I'm surprised at the number of rude and sarcastic answers. Look up the case of Schapelle Corby and then get back to me.

To the couple of people who replied politely, thank you.

On my way to Cape Town next winter, I'll have a short leg in Schiphol (1:30' ). Is that airport practical for inter-flight connections ?
