Safety is a state of mind and situational awareness. Arguably, the US is one of the most unsafe countries in the world. It only really applies if you wind up in the wrong situation in the wrong place. Same goes everywhere else in the world.
You can bring up various crime statistics by country, of course that doesn't tell all the story. And it varies by region. The US is very safe at Disney World and Yosemite National Park, not so safe in the inner city Detroit. But not many people put inner city Detroit on there "must see" travel list.
But I am confused - are you determining what to visit based on perceived safety? Best to take the opposite approach - disqualify certain countries based on danger levels (the usual suspects - conflict and politically unstable areas of the world)and go from there. You will find only a few countries really where safety levels make it outright unsafe for travel. Otherwise besides these few, any country should be safe using some common sense precautions, unless you are really an easily stressed-out individual. And in that case you probably shouldn't travel at all.
It's the job of the report-writer to fill up the 'Safety & Security' section of each listing, but if all they can manage is some stock language about pickpockets and not leaving personal items unattended, then it's probably a fundamentally safe place despite the petty theft caution.
UAE? One of the worst places ever if you run afoul of their crazy laws, especially if you're a non-Western tourist. The others I agree with.
Well, anywhere you go, it is advised to get informed about local laws and customs, and try your best to obey them. Common courtesy...
Bin there and in most North African countries, and never had any problems with their laws.

Japan, Singapore, NZ, scandanavia, Malta, most of Canada. (Non-metro/ US border mega cities)
Don't take Greyhound across rural Canada (if you want to keep your head attached to your body)
Israel felt pretty safe, cuz they know how to do security.
Areas in USA staffed by TSA feel very vulnerable. It would be such an ez agency to infiltrate and take advantage of. (Likely already done in a big way)
