We will be driving next week from Traverse City to Green Bay. We are not familiar with this area at all... Is it possible to even do this? What are the roads like etc??

thanks so much for any advice!

Mother Nature dictates how pleasent the trip is. Once you cross the bridge ( you have seen the bridge?) Rt 2 is one of the more senic drives in the country. Even tho rt2 is mostly 2 lane traffic the state has added numerous passing lanes and w/o stops it is about 3hrs to Escanaba, the place to turn south. The trip from Esky to GB has been shortened due to more expressway added in the last few years. (only a little over an hour+ to GB) There are many great things to see. Plan to stop at the welcome center just across the Mighty Mac and load up w/ all the material describing the many attractions along the way. If there isn't too much snow, I would stop at the Cut River. (especially if you like stairs & veiws) people from all over the world make the UP a vacation destination. Have a great trip!

It's a great trip, but I've only made it in the summer. I'm not sure about winter months, but my favorite areas were Fayette park (it's an actual ghost town), and Kitchitikipi (really cool springs). And, of course, there's Mackinac Island, and the fort just south of the bridge is interesting.

I have no idea which of those are actually open in Winter though!

Drive carefully, watch the weather, and you'll be fine!
