Fly Qatar. Enjoy the lack of crowds. Doha is a great city, and you'll be fine in shorts and a t-shirt for walking around. Long pants would be better, but not a necessity.
The tiff is between other Arab nations. Saving face will not allow them to make it a big deal. Enjoy the savings, and enjoy the trip.
Thanks for that hopeful message. I hope it all gets resolved before we fly out.
Johannesburg is considered to be a pretty dangerous city. Part of that is self-fulfilling prophecy, and part is true. If you want to see the future of America, look at Johannesburg. Not for black/white relations, but for rich/poor.
Doha is probably one of the safest places in the world in terms of petty crime and personal safety.

Kind of bizarre exactly why from Doha Persian Gulf the airplane is flying far over Scandinavia and not over Arabian Peninsula through Egypt into Maghreb? Just because of that reason I might still choose Norwegian Air over this one. Is entire 15 hours airplane flight less long if following other flight path route? Although, still a solid exceptional top rank 5 Stars. Reminds me of Netherlands KLM Royal Dutch with offering nice comfortable service, endless safety equal amount without any interruption on atmosphere, yet quite expensive from Norway, or Hungary major companies.
Though this is a 2 year old thread, all I can say is Qatar Air is probably one of the best airlines I've flown on. The service is outstanding.
