After my failed attempt to cool off for a week from the Las Vegas heat, I'm already thinking of next summer of a guaranteed place. Key word: guaranteed!

Grand Junction was certainly no cool off, and neither was a trip to the east to Vail and into the mountains. So I wont' do that again! I forgot, at 10,000 feet up the sun is more fierce!

"Come back home to Minnesota!" Yeah, yeah, but no guarantees there, as I've checked the temps every single day for 21 years since I left there. A couple weeks ago, 90 and 93 in Minneapolis. And high 80's even in Duluth!

2 years ago I did the Oregon Coast. Driving through Medford at 100 degrees I couldn't believe there'd be that much of a cool off in such a short distance, but the minute I drove into Gold Beach, I needed a sweater.

So, I'm thinking of going back to the Oregon Coast next year again, unless I can find another guaranteed place in the U.S., if there is any other place. Yes, I know there's lots of foreign destinations, like in the Southern Hemisphere where the winters and summers are reversed, but I'm just not up to any more foreign travel. Been there, done that!

How about you? Any guaranteed places you can think of?

How cool?
Among the country's 51 largest cities, San Francisco tops the list for usually having the coldest weather each day in June, July and August. San Francisco's mean summer temperature is barely above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas most major US cities average at least 70 °F (21 °C) during summer.
Want cooler than that?
Try Barrow in Alaska.
Average high in July: 47°F

San Francisco? You don't know what a weather hawk I've been all my years, it's the first thing I read in the newspaper every day, the weather section, temps in cities around the U.S., and other foreign spots I once visited.

San Francisco, which I've seen, can "freak out" occasionally, not very often, like hitting 90+, so that rules out guaranteed. I'm also a desert rat of 24 years, not used to humidity, so that factors in as well. Even 80 degrees in San Diego has an effect on me.

Yes, Alaska. Haven't been there in 14 years. That's worth considering!

You don't have to go all the way to Oregon. Check out Northern California. They don't call them the "cool Redwood forests" for nothing.

I understand wanting to escape the heat!

Ever done a cruise to Alaska? Between the ocean and the latitude you will cool off! Check them out on vacationstogo.com . The prices on the 90 day ticker are quite reasonable.

The Oregon coast or Northern California coast.

Minnesota is pretty hot and humid in summer.

I think that largely depends on what you are used to. Lots of people from Missouri head up north to escape the heat and humidity we have here.

From Nevada might be easiest to get a cabin in one of the towns on higher elevations of the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. You get over 7,000 feet it's usually only getting so hot.

The northern California coast is almost always cool and foggy in the summer. This includes San Francisco. On rare occasions it gets hot in the summer. No guarantees but a good bet.

This is very local- drive a few miles and go over the coastal mountains and it will be warm and sunny.

This is Flagstaff elevation. It is usually very comfortable in the summer although just now it is 90 F and above in the daytime. Statistically I would bet on the CA coast.
