North to south, here are the better-known places I felt comfortable:

Newfoundland
North Dakota
St. Louis, Missouri
Cancun City (not beach), Mexico
Leon, Nicaragua
Panama (anywhere except Colon)
Medellin, Colombia
Merida, Venezuela (probably gone now)
Peru (many places, but I never went to Macchu, nor stayed in Lima)
Sucre and Tarija, Bolivia
Asuncion, Paraguay
Salto, Uruguay
Valpariaiso/Vina and Puerto Montt, Chile
Mendoza, Argentina
Aracaju, Brazil

My favorite cities in north america are Vancouver B.C., Seattle, and San Francisco (you see a trend there).

My favorite in Mexico is Puebla.

My favorite in south america is Manizales.

My fa cities in Americas:

Large
Mexico City and New York City. Give me a month in either and I'll find something new to see/do every single day of it.

Medium
Iquitos, Peru. This place has such different vibe than most of Peru, plus easy access to Amazon river.

Small
Jardín, Colombia. When living in Medellín we took a ton of two-nighter side trips to pueblos nearby, this was by far our favorite.

Jardin is nice and the drive up to it is nice. Should note that it's pretty touristy, nice to visit and look at but not really typical of a regular town.
