What's wrong with LA Quinta. All are pet friendly and we've never stayed in a dirty or seriously bad one. A few were older, but still very serviceable for one night.
Red roof is our second choice.
Both do not have extra fees for pets.
Motel 6 - yeah, I agree. Those can be really ratty.
A piece of advice when travelling with pets. If you leave them alone in the room, crate them. At the very least, put them in the bathroom with the door closed. Put a sign on the door saying "do not open, pets in here, thank you.' Put the DND sign on the door. These methods give you the best assurance that the motel staff won't accidentally let the pets out.
