Hi, quick question first time using AirBnB. We booked a place that has 100% refund outside of fees. The place is a bit farther away from where we are visiting. Is it possible to cancel a trip and transfer funds to another reservation?

Just curious thanks for the feedback

In my experience your only option is to get a full refund and then make a new booking. If you are asking this because you wish to avoid losing the fees, if you can give some decent excuse and call customer service to explain, airbnb is generally very lenient about refunding fees to travelers who aren't serial abusers of this. I came across one instance where they would not do it (for one of my guests that I was hosting) and airbnb informed me that was because it was his third cancellation that year.

Wow... 3rd cancellation is pretty minor when traveling 365 days / yr.

With adequate notice it should not be a problem.

There have been MANY Air B&B's I wish I could have cancelled after arriving!
  • Could not find the place for several hours / no one shows up to let you in.
  • Unsafe home / area / parking... (lots of 'fire danger' places)
  • total dump (very dirty home)
  • MANY other guests (?) transient people seeking shelter (without booking / paying)
  • Pets, LOTS of pets... in your room / bathroom, chasing you around the home (all night).

WoW. There are so many OTHER (better) options! (A certified (legal / insured / SAFE / licensed B&B.... same price, but with accountability / REQUIREMENTS!)

Never had the above doing this (for thousands of stays over last 28 yrs) (including 4 last week) Often cancellations / changes are necessary ((2) last week weather / floods / snow, change of plans) No problem, no fees, no 'guest stay police needed). Our guests occasionally have issues... such as Hurricane Florence some guests had to immediately leave and travel 3,000 miles to evacuated their home. We helped them with free air tickets, and a place to store their travel gear + free change of dates. No big deal, do it all the time.

A lot of those issues are mitigated by just getting your own private space. Having other guests you don't know in a shared accommodation is just asking for a irritant.
