Trying to plan a vacation for next year for just me and my DH. We plan on doing a Florida trip with my kids in June of 2019, but we would also like to do a 4 night trip just the 2 of us in February of 2019 and can't decide. We have narrowed it down to 3 options, Aruba, Jamaica or a 4 night cruise (probably RCCL) to either Mexico or Bahamas. We have been on several cruises and like them a lot. We have also been to Jamaica, but only on a cruise stops. We have never stayed there, but like it. We have also been to Aruba, but it was also on a cruise stop and it's been 17 years. My DH is wants to choose Aruba, but I feel the flight would be too long for only going 4 nights.

So if these were your options which would you choose and why?

Any suggestions and thoughts would help! Thanks!

I voted cruise. We have been on about 8 or 9, over a number of years.

Three and four night cruises tend to be the oldest ships. I would try to make it at least seven days. The good thing about a cruise is visiting a different port every day, each with a different heritage. Some were once Spanish, others British or French. St Martin is divided between french and dutch. The US Virgin Islands were once a Danish colony.

We avoid large ships and prefer ones that carry 2,000 passengers or less.

Thanks for you input. We have been on a lot of cruises, but we love them! I actually like the bigger ones so I don’t feel sick. We can only do 4 nights as I can’t leave me children with my mom longer than that.

If you like cruises go to the Bahamas....similar to the other islands you mentioned but you'd have more free time to do off shore activities. I assume you'd have full days there, since it should take only a day to get there.

We rented a houseboat in the Bahamas and enjoyed puttering around between islands...or you could do the nightlife thing if that's your style. Do you snorkel or SCUBA? A beautiful place to do water activities...

Whatever you choose have a fun time planning...

4 nights on vacay, travelling any distance, would not be my pick time allotment wise.

It is a very long day door to door, from ORD to Aruba and even Jamaica, and repeat for return 4 days later.

Aruba is too far for 4 days.

How about Bahamas, Turk and Caicos, Puerto Rico or Virgins Islands?

After looking at the flights and the amount of hours it takes to get there, I agree, too far! We have decided on a 5 day cruise that goes to the Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos since we have never been to either place. I really didn't want to do more than 4 days, but one more day will be ok!

Free changes if you have an emergency / or any other reason (sick kids) come up.

I would recommend at least a six-night cruise in part for the reasons alluded to above: The cruise lines generally put their oldest ships on the shorter itineraries. There are various other detriments to short cruises. Since this is only a four-day trip I would suggest flying to Aruba instead.
