I might drive outside the city or take day trips to a nearby places - because it's a beautiful day and I want to be out of the house, but I couldn't imagine to TRAVEL because I feel bored.
I am pretty sure such travel done by bored people are boring and depressing and not exciting and satisfying.
I guess I don't understand the original question. I love road trips, I love planning road trips. Just one way to see other parts of the country and I enjoy scenery and noting the differences in topography, climate... . I've traveled internationally and I like that as well but it's different. I don't think wanting to see something different from where you live comes from boredom.
Like TXNGL, we love road trips. The planning, looking at maps and checking out destinations, is part of the excitement so is not boring. We travel in a pop up truck camper on a full-size 4x4 truck with our two dogs. Yes, lol, we all fit. We are explorers who enjoy driving to ghost towns and places to rockhound and photograph. We learn about the local history by stopping at all those historical markers, however obscure. Sometimes we are driving on roads that disappear or dead end or find ourselves making a 10 point turn on a very tight switchback. It is all part of the adventure and never boring.
Boredom iis from within. If you're bored at home you'll be bored elsewhere.
Maybe it's unintended, but you sound a little judgey when you say that. Boredom can be a motivator to explore and try new things, and expand the mind and soul. It's not like it's a character flaw.
Isn't most traveling done because we want to shake things up, to take a break from our normal (boring life), to live a little. I feel like most traveling or adventure is done because we are bored to some extent. I know after few months I feel the itch to go somewhere, do something, shake things up. But I don't enjoy long drives, 4-6 hours is my limit. So I prefer looking for cheap flights or save up for big flight. In summer I do drive up north in Michigan for annual road trip but that is about it.
I've never been on a cross-country trip, but I usually take at least one weekend trip a month. I live in a small metro in Tennessee. There's not a lot going on here, especially during the colder months of the year. Boredom is definitely a part of it.
I've done it many times. However, a long road trip on my own sounds insanely boring and lonely. I've gone to England, Japan, and Lebanon on my own. Trying to figure out things and getting use to local culture definitely isn't boring.
Try to save up and get out of the country if you're bored.

Exactly. Some people are so judgemental. At home it’s the same routine, everything is super comfortable . When you are on travel, you never know what you get.
I can’t believe how many memes about boredom is from boring people. I never met anybody who told me I’m boring, far from it. And no, I’m not depressing, not exciting, not satisfying( all these nonsense). What things people say online nowadays is baffling.
