First, thanks to the folks who gave some great advice when I posted my other question on a safari or Greece.
We decided to do Greece. A few details.
4 ladies, we call ourselves the "golden gals". In our late 50's but everyone is pretty healthy and mobile.
We decided on the first week in September. leaving from Philadelphia. Unfortunately we only have 8 days to play.
We're definitely going to do Athens and wanted to do an Isle. We figured due to the time constraint trying to push in two maybe rushing it.
We are beach lovers and of course want to explore the history.
So far we are thinking about
Santorini (seems to be the most well known)
Mykonos
Naxos.
Any pros or cons to any one of them? favorites?? any area of Athens you would stay at??
There is an interesting Greek Isle in the lake at Ioannina. Surrrounded be fresh water makes it unique, for a Greek Isle. The island has 7 monasteries and about 300 residents.
I've not been to Santorini, but I have visited Naxos and Mykonos. And I greatly preferred Naxos, because it doesn't get the hoards of tourists the other two islands get, since large cruise ships cannot dock there.
As for where to stay in Athens, I'd suggest staying near the Plaka.
I'm 33 and my wife and I found Mykonos to be quite annoying. We were only there for a day because the flights were slightly cheaper out of Mykonos but we wish we would have stayed in Naxos a day more. Santorini has no beaches. Naxos is AWESOME. It's cheap, the food is great and a lot more tranquil than Santorini and Mykonos. I would do Naxos and Athens OP.
I’m planing a trip to Greek isles too. This thread is of interest to me. But it will be about 2-3 weeks, not one week. I prefer not to have to pack and move so often.

If it's 3 full weeks, definitely do Athens, Santorini, Naxos and if you're feeling up to it, Mykonos. You might be able to squeeze a few days in Crete too.
