Hello,

I'm planning a 3 week backpacking trip to Colombia in July.

I'll entirely rely on public transport and have a budget of $80/day.

What's a good itinerary for the duration and time of year? I'm planning to fly in to Bogota and out of Cartagena (or vice versa).

Thank you

Have you carefully researched? You are aware there have been kidnappings of Americans in the past, right? And civil strife?? Sorry, just concerned....

Why Colombia? A safer bet....maybe Costa Rica.

Parts of Colombia are safe and other parts are not. As long as the OP carefully researches, he should be ok.

I don't know enough about what you like/dislike to really give a suggested itinerary, but we got around all over Colombia by public bus. As long as you're not traveling through Darién or along the border with Ecuador you should be fine, even the latter should be okay if taking the route through Pasto.
