I am very tall, so legroom is my issue. I always pay for the economy+/premium economy, whatever the particular airline calls it. Even that is pretty tight for me.
The lack of width makes one more susceptible to poor behavior by others. People who think it's okay for their elbows to stick into your space while they read, bump you with elbows while trying to sleep, etc.
I'm short (5'3"), average weight, I'm not a large person. Though I'm not thrilled with the lack of space in front of me, I hate the squishing feeling with a stranger next to me. Who gets which armrest? When you aren't a touchy-feely person even with people you know it's really awkward. I request the aisle seat, even though I'd love a window seat for scenery.
I just stepped out of a plane after 10 hrs flight (Houston-Berlin) and during a long flight, both - the narrow seat and no leg room is a PITA (5'8"/145). That I paid $2,000 more for Economy Premium didn't make much difference.
Lufthansa Premium Economy product is little wider than an Economy class seat, offers more legroom and more recline. Even so, it is still far closer to an economy class seat than business class seat.
I appreciated being able to recline further and stretch out my legs an extra 8", but I could not find a comfortable position for sleeping. Meals are identical to economy class, though they were free and served on ceramic dishes with glass cups. Food was fine - I actually enjoyed it.
However, I doubt that I will pay that much for so little extras in the future.
The plane was full, of course, with only 3 free seats in the last row (economy)
This can be more fair, and the airlines could put more passengers in the planes, if thy put in an appropriate number smaller seats for the smaller people so all can be as uncomfortable as us tall folk.

I'm short but plus sized. Definitely the narrow seats bother me more.
Same here. I'm used to sitting in a truck seat for 14 hours, so I'm used to minimal legroom. If I need to stretch my legs, I can take a walk to the lav. Bonus if it's occupied and I have to stand and wait on them.
I prefer the aisle seat, so if the plane isn't particularly full, I can just stretch my legs out into the aisle for a few moments or across my row toward the window if nobody is seated beside me.
