So, I'm traveling to Los Angeles and San Francisco in August and want to know what are the coolest things to see that nobody has heard of.

I will be driving between these cities and I'm all ears.

Best place in the world for pelagic birding tours. See over a dozen species of seabirds. maybe 20 up close, not just "bunches of gulls". Several outfitters take all-day trips out of sight of land, from Monterrey. Usually whales too. Trip of a lifetime. Book way ahead. Take seasick pills.

Unknown attractions in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Areas where millions of tourists are crawling all over the place.

Okie dokie.

We visited SF years ago for a 3-day weekend. The most memorable part of the trip was the drive on Rt. 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) from SF to Carmel-By-The-Sea. It was beautiful to see the change in landscape, from soaring cliffs plunging into Pacific Ocean to farmlands to the posh golf course.

Then we came back late, close to 10pm, so we went to Chinatown for Ginger - Scallion Dungeness Crab dinner - mmm mmm good

A good guide book can steer you to a bunch of possibilities. Or browse a good travel website like Fodor’s. Very comprehensive, lots of stuff to consider. Besides, having no idea what kinds of things you like to do when you travel, I’d be hard-pressed to venture any options.

None.

Every little town, every little beach on the coast is flooded with tourists.

There is one attraction you can find anywhere, where there are no tourists, and you can chat with local people who live there who are not involved in the tourist industry. People will talk to you about local life and culture and folk history. And even find bargain prices on souvenirs. And they are easy to find and are even signposted. Yard Sales.

I would like to visit Los Angeles again because of its atmosphere . It has a lot of different ethnicities. Personally, I like talking with them, as most of them are in tech, so we can nerd out on different things.
