I will be staying at a Ramada soon.I have never stayed at one before. Are they normally okay? Are they nicer than the old time independent non-chain motels? All the ones I have driven by have seemed past their prime.I get the impression that they are not as nice as a Hampton or Holiday Inn Express. Are they as nice as a Comfort Inn or Quality Inn?How nice is the average Ramada? Thanks in advance everyone.

you will have to give the location. I have stayed in some really horrible high end expensive places and some really nice Motel 6 type places.

I think you'd get a much better picture of what that particular hotel was like if you visited sites like Tripadvisor or Google. Might be hard to find people on CD that have stayed at that particular hotel. With these 2 star hotels a lot of times it depends on the particular location.

I did not post this thread specifically about the individual hotel in New Mexico.I was just wondering how nice Ramadas typically are.And also what are some comparable chains.Sorry for the confusion.Thanks.

I've found that there is no "typical" with Ramada. Some are fine, some are horrible. That's why I don't stay at them anymore. There's no consistency.

I agree. Like many chains, They are franchised locations. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But whatever corporation(s) that have owned Ramada for the last 10+ years have done a terrible job overseeing their franchised properties.

In that price range, We've found La Quinta to be reliably very good, followed closely by Red Roof Inns.

Ramada is part of Wyndham now. Wyndham often tends to have pretty inconsistent brand standards to begin with and, like most mega hotel chains, there's typically a brand that serves as a dumping ground for non-conforming properties in locations where the chain still wants to have a good footprint. (See also: Hilton and Doubletree, Accor and Mercure, and to some degree, IHG and Crowne Plaza) With Wyndham, Ramada fits that description.

They are not necessarily bad hotels in that brand but you do have to read reviews more closely and look at the pictures more critically to get the sense if the property is a lovely and well-kept former English country estate or a reasonably tidy but still Brutalist cinder block structure in a commerce park.

I used to feel the same about La Quinta, and have always had great experiences. They all seem very updated, modern, and clean. Until I had to stay at the one in my town (A/C was broken during a heat wave), and it was TERRIBLE! It is in desperate need of an update. It was old, dated, very smelly (I kept waiting to go "nose blind" and it never happened! BLEH!), and noisy. I'll definitely do research before choosing another LaQ.
