For senior citizens, yes.

But for middle-aged people like me, having a family is more a burden than anything else.

It's probably just jealousy. Most people who enjoy travel seem to be jealous of someone else when they are on vacation, especially if the other person has no trip in sight.

Could also be, if someone is bragging and show boating their trips vs sharing their experience with others. Nobody likes showboating being rubbed in their face.

I think your second paragraph is the key. Nobody really cares about your travel pictures or stories.
