I had two work-related conferences scheduled this month, April, in two different parts of the country. Of course, they were both canceled as was the right thing to do even before state-wide shutdowns / shelter-in-place was issued.
I love to travel whether work-related or recreational. Not being able to do so is causing me to have withdrawals symptoms, lol. I cope by watching more travel vlogs on a daily basis. I've found some really good ones over the last few days.
For some, it may not bother but for those with travel in your DNA, those who take to travel as a fish does to water (such as myself), how are you coping right now? What are some techniques you can share?
I've set up our DVR to record more episodes of Rick Steve's. I also picked up an Oculus Quest VR headset a few months ago, so I've been browsing through some of the VR travel content there as well.

I love Rick Steve's but I think I've seen every video available on YT of his travels.
If you're having severe travel withdrawals you might want to search Youtube for "walking tour" & pick the destination of choice. These are typically pretty long walks through cities without any narration. You might sip some wine & vicariously explore.
Starting last November my wife and I carefully planned a two-week foreign vacation set for mid April. It was time consuming and now that everything is cancelled, we’re spending more time dealing with refunds, disputes, etc. Money-wise when the dust settles it looks like we’re going to forfeit about $1200 in various fees and travel insurance that was never used.
The question in my mind now is was this complicated journey ever worth the bother? We took a trip to a secluded area of New Mexico last Summer and truly enjoyed the experience there. No ten-hour airline flights, bus tours, daily schedules, just fantastic scenery and a time away from the world. Going forward I’m more inclined to visit similar areas within driving distances and far from crowds.
Spending a lot of my time chasing down refunds and fighting with an insurance company on cancellations related to my last trip to South America, which was cut short.
Only two concrete plans right now: a local B&B 3 hours away in late June, which I have every intention of doing unless it's illegal (lots of it will be bicycling the Katy Trail, where I typically encounter few people) and a cruise off Belize and Guatemala in October, 2021.
I'm curious to hear which companies are giving people a hard time. I'm a Delta / Hilton loyalist, and so far I've been pretty satisfied by the customer service I've received when cancelling plans.
I love your optimism. Are you able to book flights, hotels, or make reservations during this time?
