This Christmas, my family will be traveling to Ireland for a week, touring by car. I reserved an automatic drive, and we will not be driving in heavily populated areas.

A driving simulator would be useful, but I can't find anything for driving on the left-side of the road.

Any driving aides would be appreciated.

Thanks !

It’s not an actual simulator but there are a number of instructional videos from UK driving schools on YouTube we found helpful when we were trying to visualize how roundabouts worked there

We did the same thing and watched YouTube videos on driving on the left, specifically for the roundabouts. It was helpful.

DH drove in south Africa. I sat in the passenger seat. The best advice we got was from a friend, and it was especially useful on the roundabouts.

DH was told to remember this rule: The b$#tch is in the ditch. Worked like a charm for him.

Designate your shotgun to continually watch your position on the road and to firmly state "stay left. stay left" when needed.

Like an airliner, pull up, pull up. Alert sound optional.

The roads can be very narrow & full of curves in many rural parts. When you meet an oncoming car, one of you may have to pull into a gate or other available space, to let the other car pass. Remember the steering wheel should be in the middle of the road. If it is not, you need to get it (car) back into the right position

The first week you spend driving there, your neck will hurt. Badly. You'll have a great trip!

We looked for this a couple of years ago, couldn't find a simulator. But we did find instructional videos, and watched them over and over, pretending that we were driving. It helped, a lot. We were driving stick, and on the left. Plus the roads in the UK are ridiculously narrow, and there aren't many highways - a lot of old lanes that got paved over, a ton of roundabouts. Here's an example from YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKr00tkLa7c

When you go, you both have to watch the road like hawks, and keep on saying, as you enter a roundabout, go left, stay left, etc. It really helped to have the person in the passenger seat watching and coaching, too.

This is no laughing matter. A couple of years ago there was a serious accident on a USA state route near us, where the driver from the UK was driving on the wrong side of the road.

I drove in UK, slowly of course. But I liked roundabouts, much easier to go with the flow or follow the traffic.
