JetBlue Airways is raising fees for checking bags again by $5 — to $35 for the first one and $40 for the second — on flights within the United States.
And Southwest remains free for the first two checked bags. As a family of 4, with each of us having one checked bag, we can either pay $0 extra, round-trip, to fly on Southwest, or $280 extra, round-trip, to fly on JetBlue. Not to mention, since people on Southwest aren't desperate to carry their worldly goods in their carry-ons to avoid the baggage fees, it's rarely a problem to find space in the overhead bins.
The basic economy is the real issue, yet it just means every US airline now basically has basic economy, Southwest not letting you choose seats at all. I have the JetBlue Plus card, so I get a free bag per person whom travels with me, and I get a lot of value from it that easily outsets the AF.
We'll see how it plays out. I for one though am excited to take the to Europe starting 2021.
Just flew JB the upgraded Blue fare wasn’t much more expensive than the basic fare and it included a checked bag.
I usually pay for the extra legroom seat. I normally don’t check bags but you get a free checked bag with those seats.
